The Gericom AG is in Linz (upper Austria) a resident Notebook and computer accessory manufacturer.
Since the year 2004 further also devices from the range Home Entertainment (television, DVD Player, etc.) are sold. The seat 1990 of the created enterprise is in Linz and led into the year 2000 the company name S plus S (or also S+S). Gericom was before it only a label name assigned from 1993 to 2000, in the course of the stock exchange course in the year 2000 has itself the enterprise on the already longer more well-known self-label name renamed to the Gericom AG.
The division the selling of memory chips for industrie and EDP equipments was original, shortly thereafter concentrated the company also on the selling of PC systems, computer components and peripheral devices. In addition, thus the company was active as Distributor for considerable hardware manufacturers, manufactured even PC systems and Notebooks. This production process consisted of Assembling of building groups.
At the beginning of concentrated one with the PC market on the selling of the devices over the supermarkets of the Metro AG (thus MediaMarkt and Saturn), later supplied oneself the company also small computer specialist dealers and large-scale enterprises directly. 1998 one followed the trend of on-line trade with its own Webshop, where final customers can buy also directly. In addition ones to it in Linz a Factory Outlet Shop was established. Additionally Gericom strengthened its market shares, as the manufacturer supplied also Notebooks to Discounter supermarkets such as Aldi, Hofer, pluses or Lidl.
The products were not developed even and were not bought to go with designed, particularly the Notebooks as finished platforms from Taiwan and other eastern countries, the Endfertigung took place in Linz. Actual manufacturers of the Notebooks e.g. are. Clevo, Arima, Mitac, FIC, university-wants, MSI or Quanta. Also different manufacturers like e.g. Fujitsu Siemens of computer manufacture build-similar Notebooks.
In the 90's-years Gericom customer of the Konkurrenzfirmen could win such as Compaq, Peacock or IBM, as the enterprise with the commercial giants small series or product series for special publicity campaigns adapted individually produced and the purchase particularly to the cases of quarter price of the memory and CCU manufacturers. Later also different OEM manufacturers pursued this business model such as Medion or Actebis (Targa). In the meantime also the large marks adapted such as Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu Siemens of computer or IBM at changing and the price discrepancies are not by far any longer as serious as in the 90's.
The Gericom AG was very successful in the years 2000 to 2003, afterwards the conversion substantial collapsed. 2004 had to look for Gericom financial sources in order to survive. In the meantime one reached the Notebook in Austria and Germany.
In March 2004 plans 24.9 per cent of the stock shares of the principal shareholder and founders of the company Oberlehner extistieren to German company the Medion to sell. The imminent firm insolvency could be avoided by this step. Few weeks after publication of the plans Oberlehner refused however, its portions as to be transferred agreed upon at Medion. The procedure persists until today.
