Lohe and/or Gerberlohe those is called in former times almost exclusively - today in Central Europe only rarely - to the Gerben used bark or sheets. The medium high-German word lo meant tear off, peel or from holes. Usually it acted thereby around crust, sheets or wood of oaks and spruces (Eichenlohe), which are very gerbstoffreich and were used in cut up form. In such a way used forests were called also A special form of the Lohe production takes place in the context of the striking mountain economy.
