George von Opel (* 18. May 1912 in Frankfurt/Main, "Â 14 August 1971 in bath Soden at the Taunus) was a German automobile entrepreneur and sport functionary.
George von Opel was born 1912 as a grandchild of Adam OPEL and Sohn von Carl OPEL. With 16 years it by the sales the Adam OPEL AG at general of engine received a considerable fortune. It invested its money as well as his cousin Fritz von Opel into the OPELs automobiles sales company, Frankfurt OPEL contract dealers on the Mainzer highway. The entrepreneurial group George von Opel GmbH is today with 29 locations a largest car dealer of Germany. it donated the OPEL zoo in Kronberg in the Taunus to 1956.
1938 he married its cousin Irmgard of OPEL, a famous jumping horsewoman. 1941 came her first son, Carlo von Opel, to the world, in the year 1943 Heinz von Opel were born.
His second wife, the Colombian diplomat daughter Eugenia Harran Olanzaga, died 1964 with a car accident on the Julierpass.
From his third marriage the children George (1966) and Gregor originate (1968).
1966 up to its death were an engaged sportsman member of the international olympic committee.
It died at the age of 59 years at a cardiac infarct, in whose consequence it had an accident with its car. Its son Gregor of OPELs took over the entrepreneurial group. In September 2005 it sold it at Deutsche Bank.
