Gateway (NASDAQ, Fortune 500) is an US-American PC chain after the model of Dell.

It was created 1985 in Iowa as a garage company of Ted Waitt and developed since then rapidly. First it firmierte under the name gateway 2000 and had its seat in Sioux town center (South Dakota, the USA), then however renamed themselves and under the new CEO Wayne Inouye also the seat after Irvine (California) shifted (since September 2004) after it had moved already before to San Diego (1998).

Gateway is considered as the third biggest PC manufacturer in the USA and stands on place 10 in the world (conditions: December 2005). Gateway is world-wide with the direct sale of personal computers on a prominent position. It produced its computers in the USA, Ireland and Malaysia and employed 1997 world-wide occasionally up to 9.700 coworkers. In January 2005 amounted to officially on the Website of the enterprise indicated number of employees still 1.900.

Gateway 1997 of a broader public in Germany became admit, than it - in place of the VisCorp withdrawn from the offer - the rights at the Amiga computers from the bankrupt's estate of the 1996 broke ESCOM AG acquired. The existing Amiga Technologies GmbH thereupon - further under the direction of Petro Tyschtschenko - in Amiga internationally GmbH umfirmiert. In the year 2000 gateway sold the rights of Amiga to the US enterprise Amino development, which thereupon in Amiga, Inc. umfirmierte.
