The fire-place (of latin caminus "furnace ") is a device to the room heating and December ducks lighting. It consists of from brick-work or Eisenplatten umschlossenen, completely in the wall lying or partly of the same out-jumping area, in which one burns the fuel material on a rust, during incineration gases, soot and fine dust directly into the chimney escapes.

Open fire-place

This somewhat antiquated form of power production is also as classical open fire-place well-known and was due to the absence of a central heating as well as other alternatives in 19. Century inside still quite far spreads, in order to make individual areas (Kemenate) habitable otherwise unheated buildings. In the fire-place the fire works only by radiant heat, the fire-place heating is extremely disadvantageous therefore. It is however in mild Klimaten much likes, because the sight of the fire makes the impression of the comfort, and because the out-standing part of the fire-place can be prepared to an excellent article for interior decoration. That Kaminsims serves besides for the list of for example clocks, mirrors and bronze.

One differentiates between lombardische fire-places with, pyramid-shaped coat protruding far, which stands on consoles or other pre-assembled rising up; French, outside of the wall stand completely; German, which continue to protrude still and a high coat have, and Dutch, completely in the wall lying. In order to improve the efficiency of the fire-place substantially, one uses chimney ovens out of iron sheet metal, which are put into the fire-place opening, or placed before the fire-place wall (chimney wall) and attached with pipes to the fire-place (chimney) hermetically; by means of convection lower cold air in the room is in-sucked, at the fire warmed up and flows up in this condition (heating). The efficiency of a chimney oven is substantially better than the one open fire-place.

Closed fire-place

The closed fire-place is a technical advancement of the traditional, open fire-place with very high water-lateral efficiency (approx. 85% water-laterally, + 5% radiant heat). The heating space is defined by a fireproof windowpane to the fire-place room. The air circulation of fresh air and flue gas are optimized in the closed, water-prominent fire-place. The double-walled side panels, the boiler grate and flue gas bags in the heating space are water-cooled whereby the water as sources of energy work. The warmed up water is led over the heater net into dwellings or serves for the heisswasserversorgung. The water-prominent fire-place works as independent heating system and can be used also for the discharge of other heating systems than secondary heating. As technical designation of the water-prominent fire-places the term fire-place boiler in the literature is used. The water-prominent fire-place is after technical classification a solid boiler, however with the Design of a traditional fire-place.
