Fritz Thyssen (* 9 November 1873 in at the Ruhr; "† 8 February 1951 in Buenos Aires) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

Fritz Thyssen was born as a son of the Industriellen August Thyssen in at the Ruhr. Since 1885 partial inheritance of the company, he transferred starting from 1897 different positions in the company of his father, among other things in the pit executive committee of the bill trade union of German emperors (1897), in the supervisory board of the Saar and Mosel mine society (1900) and the Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG (1907).

After the death of its father 1926 it brought substantial parts of the company into the united steel plants AG, whose supervision advice presidency it had until 1939. Although it still the monarchistic DNVP belonged, it supported already 1930 publicly Adolf Hitler and the Nazis - since 1923 it had already promoted the NSDAP with extensive donations as one of the few German industrial magnates. Thyssen hoped in that time for the reestablishment of the old condition system and promised themselves from the Nazis a smashing of the German workers' movement. On 1 June 1931 it occurred the NSDAP. In October 1931 he took part in the education of the "Harzburger front" against the Weimar Republic. On 27 January 1932 Adolf Hitler there could by the assistance Thyssens before the industrial club Duesseldorf speak and for its goals recruit. In November 1933 Thyssen for the NSDAP became member of the realm daily. It belonged to the group by Industriellen, bankers and farmers, who addressed an input in November 1932 to realm president Paul von Hindenburg, in which was demanded that Adolf Hitler should be appointed the realm chancellor.

1935 developed first diversities of opinion between Thyssen and Hitler. Thyssen criticized the Judenpogrome and appearing the war of Germany against the Western powers; he endorsed however a war against the Soviet Union. 1939 it, after it had placed itself openly against Hitler's war politics, emigrierte first into Switzerland and afterwards to France. Its possession in Germany was expropriated, it was expatriated.

1940 it dictated in Southern France to the American journalist Emery Reeves the book "I Paid Hitler" ("I had financed Hitler"), an account with Hitler and its own role with Hitler's ascent. Before it had correction-read and had freely given the dictations all, German troops marched into France. Thyssen was arrested and transferred to Germany. There it was brought into different concentration camps (usually in "honorable", at first in a sanatorium with Berlin with his Mrs. then in the KZ Saxonia living, in February 1945 in the KZ beech forest and finally in the KZ Dachau). Emery Reeves published the book without Thyssens release 1941; Thyssen dissociated itself after the war from the fact and interspersed that never a German translation appeared.

After end of war Thyssen of the allied ones one interned, however already one released 1948 again. In the same year it pulled after Buenos Aires (Argentina) to its daughter Anita, which since 1936 with the Hungarian count Gabor Zichy (1910 - 1972) was married. On 8 February 1951 it died there. Fritz Thyssen was married since 1900 with Thyssen (1877-1965).
