Friedrich Mie (* 13 August 1844 in Basel; "† 26 August 1895 in Davos) was a physician and professor for physiology at the University of Basel.

Life

1869 discovered Mie nucleic acid in an excerpt from pus cells and called it "Nuclein "- derived from Latin nucleus, core. He worked at that time in the laboratory of Felix Hoppe Seyler in the lock. In addition it demonstrated that the regularization of the respiration depends on the CO2-Konzentration in the blood.

1872 were transferred a Mie Professur at the University of Basel.

1970 were created in Basel by the companies Ciba and Geigy (today fuses to Novartis) the Friedrich of Mie institutes (FMI), which biomedical basic research operates.
