Francis Mer (* 1939 in Pau) is a Industrieller and a French politician.
Mer is graduate of the poly-technical university and engineer for mining industry.
1970 - Entrance into the entrepreneurial group Saint Gobain into Pont Mousson. There he occupies successively the positions of the planning responsible person (1971), planning leader (1973), general manager of the subsidiary Saint Gobain Industries (1974 - 1978) and finally the deputy general manager of the entrepreneurial group (1978), responsible for industrielle politics. In July 1982 he becomes chairman of the board of the corporation and director/conductor of the branch for drains and mechanics.
When the French state in September 1986 as a principal shareholder the fusion of the two steel producers decides Usinor and Sacilor, Mer is appointed as the chairman of the new steal-producing enterprise. After its privatisation 1995 Mer is confirmed also by the board of directors as a chairman of the board.
Besides Mer manages the French combination of the steal-producing industry since 1988.
Also in the combination of the steel producers of Europe Eurofer he took over the presidency from 1990 to 1997.
In the executive committee of the national combination for research and technology he cooperates since 1991.
From 1997 to 1998 he occupied the executive committee post of the international iron and institute for steel.
