Ford Sierra of the first series of 1982 - 1986 Ford Sierra is the successor Ford of the Taunus in Germany bzw.des Ford Cortina in England. During its introduction (project name tonuses) 1982 ensured the aerodynamic Design (Cw-value: 0,34) and the futuristic for sensation. Under the sheet metal of the first series however the proven Ford rope US technology hid itself. If diagonal tail sedans as well as the combination (called with Ford tournament and/or Traveller) of the Hecktrieblers were in the offer at the beginning only three and, then the series were extended in the context of the Facelift to the model year course 1987 nevertheless still by a classical notchback (MK2 series). The Sierra attained special fame by the numerous Rallye and above all route car victories (DTM, EM, WM) of the models Sierra XR4Ti, Sierra and Sierra R-S Cosworth. Terminator point of sporty success was 1988 the profit of the DTM with R-S 500 by Klaus Ludwig.

Ford Sierra of the first series of 1982 - 1986 are actually no more in the streetscape represented and attained at present the Youngtimer status, however without serious increase in value and stand only under scene-typical attention. Particularly RSR are here the tournament - models, the V6/XR4i, the 2,0 litres iS, the V6/2.3 litre, the P 100 and the Cosworth Coupes. Rather subjectively the question arises whether a Ford of old design becomes the classical automobile not for the last time here.

The Modellpallette of the European Ford works was already completely uniform during the introduction, yet one made concessions for the British market. Thus 1987 the from the program and the notchback disappeared as Sierra Sapphire were sold there, which already carried in the rest of the radiator grille 87 ' Facelifts. With mentioned Facelift the Sapphire corresponded again to the German models, however with the and with the combination the old front was maintained.

Altogether 2,700,500 Ford Sierra in Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, South Africa, Venezuela, Argentina and New Zealand were produced. Into the USA from 1984 to 1988 excluding the three-door XR4i was exported and driven out there under the name Merkur. In some countries the Sierra was available starting from 1988 also as Pick UP under the model designation P100.

Despite the initially look up-exciting body the Sierra could keep up later only heavily with its German and Japanese competitors, since in the meantime in the middle class the front wheel drive had become generally accepted. Successor of the Sierra became starting from 01/1993 Ford with front wheel drive Mondeo.
