Ford Orion was a passenger car model of Ford. It represented starting from July 1983 the four-door notchback counterpart to Ford the Escort. It corresponded to the Escort up to the B-column. However to the Orion the third side window and it were missing possessed another radiator grille. Because the Orion should be originally positioned more highly than the Escort, he was available only with 1,3 and 1,6 litre engines and only in the Austattungsvarianten GL and Ghia.
Together with the Escort the Orion was submitted 1986 to a Facelift. Again one could recognize the Orion by another geometrical form of the radiator. In the year 1991 a successor (Orion '91) was presented. Also this mark was missing to the Orion the third side window, however the tail organization was now completely adapted to that of the Escort. Original registration number the front, white turn signal glasses should be, which however in the same year also the Escort received. For a notchback sedan was unusual, which was available the Orion now also with rear windshield wiper. In Brazil this model was sold as Ford Verona.
With 1992 made Facelift the Orion got finally again its own radiator grille (middle chrome prop). The new tail Design of the Escort was not taken over with the Orion however.
In September 1993 Ford painted to the names Orion, which from now on with exception Argentina was sold as Escort.
After a renewed, comprehensive Facelift 1995, with which again the Heckpartie remained unchanged, production was stopped 1998. As successors the notchback variant Ford of the focus can be regarded.
Despite the rather low sales figures in the Federal Republic it is to be noted that the Orion was particularly sold successfully in other European countries, in Great Britain, quite.
Ford Orion in the Diesel variant was characterised by an enormous thriftiness and tenacity, it was pretty often that vehicles reached 450000 km border with an engine.
