The model A was the name for two cars, which were built by Ford engine company and/or the Ford works AG.
The original model A, also the Ford mobile mentioned, was the first car, which was produced by Ford in the year 1903. Dr. Ernst Pfenning from Chicago, Illinois were built on 23 July 1903 the first owner of a model A. 1,750 cars of 1903-1905.
To add the car as two-seat Runabout or viersitziges ton outer model offered with the cover. The horizontal attached 2-Zylinder-Boxermotor was accommodated centric in the vehicle and produced 6 kilowatts (8 HP). A 3-Gang-Planetengetriebe was added, a Ford handwriting, which one saw later also in the model T. The car weighed 562 kilograms and had a maximum speed of 72 km/h. On the development the company had spent nearly its entire output investment capital at a value of 28.000 $. On the bank account only 223,65 $ had remained, when the first model A was sold. The success of this automodel brought profit for the company and formed Henry Ford first successful business.
The second model A was further success for Ford engine company and also in Germany was built. The first model was produced on 20 October 1927, but by 2 December sold, it did not replace the best seller model T, which had been long produced 18 years. The model A was available in four standard colors, but not in black.
The prices reached from 385 $ for a Roadster up to 570 $ for the Viertrer. The machine was a L-Kopf-4-Zylinder with a capacity of 3.3 litres. The typical fuel consumption lay between 9 and 12 l to 100 kilometers, using a zenith barrel carburetor, with a maximum speed of approximately 104 km/h. It had an axle base of 103,5 tariff (2.6 m) with a gear wheel relationship of 3.77:1. The transmission was a 3-Ganggetriebe with a reverse gear. The model A had mechanical four wheel brakes.
The model A had a broad multiplicity of versions: (standard and Deluxe), business sport Roadster (standard and Deluxe), convertible Cabriolet, convertible Sedan, Phaeton (standard and Deluxe), (standard and Deluxe), city car, (2-Fenster) (standard and Deluxe), (3-Fenster) (standard and Deluxe), Victoria, station trucks, taxi, truck and Commercial.
Production was terminated on 31 August 1931, with 4.320.446 built vehicles in all versions. The model A was replaced by an updated model, which was called by Ford model B.
The Russian company GAZ, which began a co-operation between Ford and that Soviet Union, built a licensed version model of the A.
