The fodder master, the Futtermeisterin, is responsible for the procurement, the storage, the preservation and the preparation of feeds. At the same time they provide for the adherence to the hygiene regulations, supervise the fodder mechanisms and control the fodder admission of the animals. The fodder masters examine the feeds after composition, consistency, appearance and smell. They determine the fodder rations after quantity and composition considering of breed and attitude goals and the age the animals.

The main operational areas of fodder masters are agricultural enterprises with large animal husbandry, game enclosure, zoo-logical gardens and studs.

The Futtermeisterin, can exercise the occupation of the fodder master, animal male nurses, horse landlords, animal landlords with an final professional training and a specialized further training in Germany.

The fodder master of the GDR was publicised at the beginning of the sixties in the GDR for improvement fodder production into the LPG.

The German farmer newspaper of 31. March 1961 justified this publicising the fodder master we follows: "Because we do not get ahead now in village, into all LPG without qualified guidance any longer. The fodder master will help thereby." This action was a reference on the fact that it had come in the GDR with the utilization of the Futtermitel into the LPG to heavy bad states.
