Flender flux is in Netphen, North-Rhine/Westphalia, resident tradition enterprise with a firm history, whose main business is the production of metal roof deck systems.
The company Wilhelm Flender is one of the two enterprises of the Netphener of quarter Deuz, whose chronicle several generations covered and which to the industrialization of the place crucially contributed, the other one is rollers Irle. Both enterprises are characterised by the fact that already in former times in the place operated trades removals developed and to enterprises, which gave many generations work and bread. The following remarks essentially orient themselves at the firm chronicle, which was provided 1952 on the occasion of the of firm anniversary by Mr. H. to
It is pointed out that some details do not correspond accurately to this chronicle, since due to newer investigations the beginnings of the enterprise seem to have taken place somewhat differently.
Certainly the history of the company Flender is closely connected with "Wellmes ". In other place of this book the emergence of the house names is treated; afterwards it is very probable that this house name is due to Johannes William heath, which or its father 1738 let the house establish. One can assume, but not prove that mentioned heath to the family heath was in adjoining house, i.e. "Heinemanns ", related. Johs. William heath left the house to its son Philipp Henrich and this to its son-in-law Johannes
The first carrier of the name Flender in Wellmes is only the son-in-law of Johannes the 1802 born Joh. Eberhard Flender. The history of the family Flender begins therefore strictly taken not in, Wellmes ", but, "; because the Johannes Flender originating from Kredenbach 1762 marry Maria Kath. Siebel, whose nut/mother was called still with maiden name staffs. Their father originated from Afholderbach and after Deuz had in-married. A granddaughter of the Johannes Flender married Joh. Henrich Hoffmann from Wilgersdorf, which took over the house and whose name is connected this very day with the house. Their brother was above the Joh already mentioned. Eberhard Flender. Johannes Flender operated first a Schmiede opposite the pharmacy, which belonged probably in former times once too, stronghold man ". It had however surely soon recognized that here in the long term and with further expansion the water supply was too uncertain, and builds for 1779 a new Schmiede directly to the victory underneath the today's bridge. Johannes Flender exercised also the office of the Heimbergers, which an acknowledgment for its capability was undoubted. Also its son Joh. We find Adam registered in the old documents as Heimberger and even as syringe leaders. The latter honorary office remained however connected by the next generations with the house, ".
Those would Klein-avoid Flender acquired itself very fast and in the far periphery a good reputation. Also today we still find everywhere axes with the hit company name. The reason for the good quality was apart from the careful, conscientious processing and the exclusive firing with charcoal, which partially still was burned, the use of a special steel mixture, which was long work secret. But Swedish charcoal steel, steel and scythe steel, which one won from useless scythes become, were welded together. Welding of the different steel grades was quite cumbersome, because only in the small forging fire without large blowers could be worked, but was worth the result the troubles. Subsequently, the cuts on a handdriven stone had to become polished.
In the year 1882 permission for water enterprise was requested and a water wheel to the victory was established. In the following years the enterprise with rapid speed expanded. This expansion was coined/shaped considerably by William Flender (1884-1955), that the family business in the 6. Generation to a correct enterprise developed. It began 1910 with the use of spring hammers and iron shears, whereby already electric drives were used. Thus already industrially different ironmongery parts, in particular for the roofing trade, could be manufactured.
Four people were busy in the old workshop, which proved gradually as too small and unsuitable for an extension. Thus 1911 a new, larger Schmiede and its own Verzinkerei at the Herborner road were built and taken in the year 1912 in enterprise. For the drive of the machines a suction gas engine with 15 HP served achievement. The staff was supplemented on 13 men and the company was converted into a GmbH.
Unfortunately the 1 braked. World war suddenly the ascent of the recent enterprise. Even the manufacturer did not remain spared by the mobilization. Even if its wife tried to resume the company still with the few remaining workers the work 1915 had to close because of lack of learned workers. When William Flender was home abkommandiert 1917 for the production of war material, he had to make only the machines damaged strongly by a Wasserrohrbruch again passable. The demand that of military was so large that the staff on approximately 50 persons increased. Therefore property and buildings of the neighbouring former Uhrenfabrik were in addition-bought and repaired with much costing. In addition also a steam engine with 25 HP of achievement belonged.
With completion of the war and return of the old staff members one took the production of ironmongery parts. Additionally one began with the sheet metal processing. After a short time of the upswing, into which the acquisition of a diesel engine with 40 HP and the production of the track connection fall as well as the purchase of some adjacent properties, the enterprise comes in the inflation and/or deflation years 1928/1929 into serious financial difficulties. By common victims of partners and staff one could get over these however without dismissals.
After 1933 the paragraph developed again favorably. After one had taken still 1938 a second diesel engine in enterprise, 1940 the connection took place to the current supply via the power station winner country. Also during 2. World war the enterprise was obligated to the production of war material.
Fortunately the buildings remained exempted from bomb attacks, so that 1947 the production of the old program could be already taken up again. Due to increasing building activity the paragraph of the Bedachungsartikel rose, and the enterprise could expand again strongly. At the same time the product range in the areas sheet metal processing and structural steelworks was extended. This second expansion phase is coupled with the change on the 7. Generation of the family. William Flender, which had also developed the company by all confusions of the time of a 4-Mann-Betrieb to an enterprise over 100 persons employed, died 1955. Its second wife, whom he married 1946 and who was married by it in first marriage with relatives, followed it 1967. 1953 occurs its son-in-law, Karlfried Heukelbach, management. 1965 follow her son William During this change of generations takes place a complete modernization of the enterprise, which appeared also outward by a gradual outline of the old buildings and the replacement by modern lndustriehallen.
