The firm book (commercial registers) is a public listing (register), in which the most important relevant in law facts and right conditions over full buyers and acquisition companies are registered in Austria.
The firm book was introduced 1991 as replacement supported by automation for the trade register and that in former times separated led Genossenschaftsregister (both led).
It is led with the locally responsible national court (in Vienna with the commercial court, in Graz with the national court for civil law things) and consists of the general ledger and archives. Each registered legal entity keeps one central for the entire federal territory given firm book number (FN), which is maintained up to the deletion, even if the seat is shifted or the legal form is changed. The general ledger is led digitally and contains all of the substantial enterprise data concerned.

The entries in the firm book take place usually only upon the request of the persons involved. Exeptionally certain entries, e.g. entry and adjudication are officially made.
The firm book entries are published - with certain exceptions - in the Official Journal to Viennese the newspaper and in the central sheet for entries, published from the Federal Ministry for economics and work, in the firm book of the Republic of Austria. Entries over single buyers, OHG, kg and acquisition companies (OEG, KEG) in the data base of the firm book apply to be familiar made and do not have not to be published.
The firm book (general ledger) is considered as public listing, into which each insight can take. With legal interest also the possibility exists of sighting the documents submitted to archives.
