Fincantieri - Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. is the largest Italian shipbuilding enterprise. 1959 as national getting thing was created, which eight enterprises belonged, which were occupied with shipbuilding, ship repairs and the building of marine engines. 1984 these companies and the superordinate getting thing were converted into only one shipbuilding enterprise, which resumes the traditions of the old Italian shipyards.

The company headquarters is today in Triest. Fincantieri succeeded it in the last years, many, above all East Asian cheap offerers on the market by the concentration on the segment of high-quality megacruise ships to meet (v.a. "Carnival" - and "Costa" - series). In this range it is today one the world market leader. The enterprise divides into three departments:

• Cruise ships are built in Monfalcone and Marghera (Venice) (because of the large demand since 2001 also in Sestri Ponente with Genova);

• For transportation and other trading vessels are responsible the shipyards in Ancona, Castellammare di Stabia (Neapel) and Palermo;

• Warships are built in Riva Trigoso (Genova) and Muggiano (La Spezia).
