When one designates final energy that part of the primary energy, which is to the consumer, after departure of transportation and transformation losses, at the disposal.

At the beginning of the power production process the primary energy, which is present either in freer or in form bound at sources of energy, occurring in nature, stands e.g.

  • fossil sources of energy (for example brown coal, hard coal, natural gas and oil)
  • renewable sources of energy (for example biomass, water power, solar power, terrestrial heat, wind energy)
  • Nuclear energy carrier (main uranium).

These primary energy carriers are converted by processes such as burn, splitting or a refining into secondary sources of energy. These processes of transformation are afflicted with losses. Secondary sources of energy are for example electricity, gasoline, kerosene or long-distance heating. By the transport of the secondary energy to the consumer it comes to further losses. One calls the energy arriving with the consumer final energy.
