FESTO is the name 1925 of a created German medium-size entrepreneurial group of the control and automatic control engineering with company headquarters in Esslingen at the Neckar.

Name givers of the Firmierung were the two founders Albert Fezer and Gottlieb Stoll, although first had already separated few years after the establishment of an enterprise again.

In the first decades into the post-war period the enterprise under the guidance offered treatment of God-dear Stoll machines for the wood en and -, first also stationary, later however excluding portable. Thus FESTO already developed 1929 the first transportable chain saw.

End of the 1950er years took place with the application of pneumatics first only as auxiliary technology in woodworking machines - the crucial step for the today's meaning of the enterprise as a world market leader in the pneumatic-electronic automatic control engineering.

The entrepreneurial group employs at present (2005) world-wide approximately 11,000 coworkers and obtained company-wide 2005 a conversion of 1.4 billion euro. Beside Esslingen pc. Ingbert Rohrbach is in the Saarland further important German location, at the same time also the largest world-wide. World-wide there are 55 independent FESTO companies and in further 39 countries FESTO agencies.

The range of wood processing tools belongs since 1 January 2000 no longer to the entrepreneurial group and firmiert since then under Festool.
