Ferid Murad (* 14 September 1936 in Whiting, Indiana, the USA) is an US-American physician and Pharmakologe, who received 1998 the Nobelpreis for medicine.

Biografie

Murad, son of an Albanian immigrant and a US citizen, studied University in Cleveland (Ohio) at the private Western reserve, where it attained a doctorate to 1965 in medicine and pharmacology. It went to the university from Virginia, where it became 1970 professor. it changed 1981 to Stanford. When it received the Nobelpreis, it was at the university of Texas in Houston.

Murads main research area was the role of nitrogen monoxide as messenger material in the heart circulation system; Robert F. Furchgott and Louis J. Ignarro supplemented his research, for which the three received 1998 the Nobelpreis together. Murad and Furchgott for this research Albert Lasker Award for medical basic research had been already awarded to 1996.
