Works

  • Della moneta is considered as classical work of the Italian literature. Galiani represents here - contrary to the opinion at that time - which thesis that the value a characteristic of the things is not justified, but in human nature. The money is a commodity (at that time from gold or silver), whose value depends on supply and demand. This thesis will represent today from the neoquantitativen Chicagoer school. The implicit consequence from Galianis analysis is to extract from the rulers the right of disposal over the monetary system and to subordinate the creation of money of democratic control.
  • In Dialogues sur le commerce analyzes Galiani the hunger emergency in Neapel (1763-1766) and comes in the end that the Sicherstellung of the basic supply is not only to be regarded under economic criteria, but that the state is obligated at "the public goods "to guarantee production. In its entire economic work it points out that the well-being being issued of a country depends on the democratic, free market safety device of the monetary value, on well working national institutions and an awake social conscience.
  • The letters of the Galiani (with introduction and notes of William Weigand, Munich and Leipzig 1914; a selection is in Galiani, light of letters, the other library Hg. per cent M. Enzensberger) after its return from Paris corresponded to Galiani with its Paris friends from the circle of the and the salons (among other things madame Necker, madame d'Epinay). These letters belong to the most interesting and spirit-richest reflections of the European spirit life the eve of the French revolution.
