Ferdinando Coelestinus Galiani (* 2 December 1728 in Chieti; "Â 30 October 1787 in Neapel) was an Italian economist and writer.
1735 were trained Galiani by his uncle, archbishop Celestino Galiani, one of the most influential men in the kingdom, in Neapel and occasionally in Rome. Neapel was at that time the third biggest metropolis of Europe and the house of the uncle, the Casa Galiani, the intellectual center. 1744 it was accepted to "the Accademia degli Emuli ".
Its Hauptwerk Della Moneta - Libri Cinque (dt.: Over the money - five books) 1751 appeared. A journey by upper Italy became for it the literary triumph course. In Rome it became of Pope Benedikt XIV. received. 1755 appointed it king Karl IV. of Neapel (Karl III. (Spain)) to the member of the academy of Herculanum, which had the task to lead the excavation work in the antique Herculaneum and describe the finds. In the period of 1759 to 1769 Galiani was a secretary of the neapolitanischen legation in Paris, where he became the favourite of the salons. In the following year its book appeared "Dialogues sur le commerce " (dialogues over the grain trade), which became in Paris the best-seller. Its writings were praised by Diderot, Voltaire and the other In Neapel he was appointed in the same year the secretary of the highest commercial court. 1782 he became first assessor of the highest financial advice in the Kingdom of Neapel. Galiani was now famous. It stood for the large one in exchanges of letters with Friedrich and many other European princes.
