Ferdinand August Maria Franz von Ritgen (* 12 October 1787 in Wulfen b. Dorsten; "† 14 April 1867 in pouring) was a German medicine professor, and a founder of one of the first nine German birth aid schools.

Life

It was born 1787 as a son of Johann Philipp Ritgen and Marie Louise D'Arton.

1808 it is mentioned as Wundarzt to Belecke. 1811 he is a medical officer to Meschede and Physikatsrat into city mountains. There he marries his Mrs. Clara Herold. In the same year its son Hugo is born.

1814 habilitiert Ritgen and as a professor of the medicine to the University of pouring are called. With its appointment Ritgen received a free official residence, but it was obligated to give to the midwives instruction free of charge.

After 1816 it took up midwife instruction and implemented the establishment of its own midwife school. As personnel for it were to it in the relieving house only one upper midwife, a computer and a at the disposal. Despite the bad support it carried at that time an organization out of instruction for the midwives and the studying of the medicine, exemplary for conditions.

For the instruction of the midwives in each case two months were intended, the months April until May and October until November as training period. This time was divided into a theoretical and a practical part.

Ritgen was the opinion, "that also ladies of education with this subject be occupied can". It lent on 6 September 1815 to the birth aid Josepha of filter old the relieving art. Two years later, to 26. March 1817 attained a doctorate the daughter Charlotte of filter old in pouring with Ritgen to the Doktorin artis obstetriciae.
