The federal soil law for the protection (BBodSchG) is a German Rahmengesetz of the federation, which forms the main part of the German soil patent right together with the soil laws for the protection of the countries. It pursues the purpose lastingly the functions of the soil to secure or restore. For this harmful soil changes are to be repelled, the soil and be reorganized refuse dumps as well as thereby caused water pollutions and to be met precaution against unfavorable effects the soil. With effects on the soil impairments of its natural functions as well as its function are to be avoided as archives of nature and culture history as far as possible.

Area of application

The BBodSchG applies to

  • the soil, i.e. the upper layer of the earth's crust
  • including the liquid components (soil solution) and
  • the gaseous components (soil air),
  • without groundwaters and beds.

It finds on harmful soil changes and refuse dumps application.
