The Federal Office for population protection and disaster relief (BBK) developed at the 1. May 2004 by separating from the office for federal administration and is responsible for the civil defense of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is subordinate officially to the Federal Minister of the Interior and its president is Christoph Unger. The service seat is in the urban district Bad Godesberg of the federal city Bonn.
The BBK has the task to guarantee and coordinate the civilian and disaster control in Germany.
