The federal commercial commission (Federal trade Commission, FTC) is an independently working federal authority of the United States of America with seat in Washington D.C. It was created in the year 1914 and is responsible for union control and the consumer protection. It becomes active with direct complaints of consumers or enterprises against individual enterprises. It can undertake large investigations also with inquiries of the congress or publications in the press.

The setting of tasks for the authority is described generally to meet unfair and deceptive practices in order to guarantee a functioning of a competition-certain market. It goes here beyond the setting of tasks for a competition authority, by noticing also tasks of the consumer protection.
