The Federal association of public banks of Germany () with seat in Berlin is the protection of interests of the public, i.e. from public carriers carried, banks in the Federal Republic of Germany. It has the legal form of a registered association. Private banks will represent not from the but from the Federal association of German banks.

The goes back on the 1916 into Berlin to created federation of German public loan corporations. After already 1947 in the British and American zone of occupation again reestablishments took place, 1949 as union in Hanover the federation of public loan corporations, which cooperated closely with the German savings bank and Giroverband, developed. 1958 were shifted the seat to Bad Godesberg, opened to 1962 an office in Brussels. 1974 took place renaming in federation of public banks, finally 1997 to the today's name. 1999 moved the office to Berlin.

The represents the interests of its 62 members - main Landesbank and promotion banks - by consultation, support and exchange of experience as well as the agency of the common interests in the public and in relation to authorities. At the same time it functions as employers' association in collective bargaining.

The is member of the European Association OF Public bank. It is carrier of the insert contingency fund for accounts at the member banks and for it the attached banks a procedure for the conciliation of customer complaints with a neutral Ombudsmann created.

The federation is led by a executive committee, at whose point a president stands. Current president is Thomas's R. Fischer (WestLB).
