Faun was an enterprise of the vehicle and Maschinenbauindustrie. The company decreases/goes back to the establishment of a casting workshop by Justus Christian brown in the year 1845 in Nuremberg. Here 19 developed in the course. Century in particular numerous developments in the area of the the First World War were produced truck for the German army. 1916 took place the fusion with the vehicle factory Ansbach. From this the F'ahrzeugfabriken Ansbach and Nuremberg developed, briefly for 'FAUN. Into the 1920er-Jahren one developed v. A. of public utilities vehicles here for the refuse disposal and road cleaning. Around 1927 there was a passenger car named Kautz K3. During the Second World War the Faun works were destroyed to a large extent.

Into the 1950er-Jahren the renewed ascent of the enterprise began, particularly by the building of cross-country heavy load and special vehicles for the German Federal Armed Forces. 1968 were given up the production of conventional trucks, since one could not compete with the by far larger manufacturers such as Mercedes Benz and MAN ONES any longer. Instead one was shifted completely on the construction and the building of special vehicles, which were produced only in small numbers of items. In addition counted tractors, heavy load transporters, fire-brigade and airport vehicles, dump trucks, excavators, wheeled loaders, and public utilities vehicles.

1986 sold the owner family Schmidt the company to the construction machine manufacturer Orenstein & ouple, which the manufacturing of the dump trucks under own name resumed. The section of the public utilities vehicles was separated and resumed as enterprise of the Kirchhoff group with the work in Osterholz Scharmbeck. The remaining part of the company was taken over 1990 by the Japanese crane manufacturer Tadano. After in the same year the strongly export-dependent business with heavy tractors had to be stopped, Tadano Faun with seat in run manufactures military special vehicles to the Pegnitz today excluding auto and mobile crane as well as.
