Eye plasters are self adhesive plaster federations for the treatment of illnesses and injuries of the eyes. Usually opaque plasters are meant to the Okklusionstherapie (Okklusionspflaster, colloquially also called squinting plasters) with it. In addition, there are also translucent variants (so-called watch glass federations) as well as sterile eye plasters to the Wundversorgung.
With a Amblyopie (Schwachsichtigkeit) by opaque taking of the better eye off the worse eye is forced to seeing and trained thereby. The brain must use the eye, so that the Sehfunktion (far) can develop and itself visual acuity improved. Eye plasters to the Okklusionstherapie possess therefore a light density layer, which is to exclude light attractions on the taken off eye. The substrate must stick surely, so that plaster does not become detached before time. At the same time the plasters must be well strike compatible in addition, so that with longer application no skin irritations develop in particular. By the flat form (no thick Mullauflage also carrying of eyeglasses is possible with sealed eye without problems. In order to increase the acceptance the treatment with children, the plasters are for some time offered not only in white and striking colors, but also colored (university and sample). Beside the Amblyopiebehandlung eye plasters are used also in the context of the diagnostics by double pictures (Diplopie). To determine an eye for few days sealed over immediately after removing the plaster the squint angle, e.g. for the adjustment of prism eyeglass lenses. Eye plaster/federations for this purpose are designated partly also than Marlow federation.
If a lid can be no longer completely closed, the danger exists that the eye drains. This is with e.g. Bell paralysis or Lagophtalmus the case. Here eye federations with transparent disk ("watch glass") are used, which make on the one hand a seeing possible and on the other hand the eye draining to protect.
Sterile eye federations are put on operations after eye injuries, - infections or -, in order to immobilize and protect against infections the eye. In addition Augenkompressen can be used, which are fixed by means of paving tires or eye flap. Likewise there are self adhesive, sterile plaster federations, which make paving tires and eye flap dispensable. Beside thick, absorbent Mullauflagen there is also here flat plaster, with which carrying of eyeglasses is possible.
