The Eyach virus was discovered 1976, the name is derived from the discovery site Eyach with gang castle at the Neckar.
The virus belongs to the family of the Coltiviren (RNA viruses of the family Reoviridae). Also in France and Tschechien the virus was isolated. There is a relationship to the exciter of the Colorado Zeckenfieber virus. The virus was proven in Zecken (Ixodes ricinus). As reservoir mammals, like rabbits, are considered mice, deer, goats and sheep. The clinical meaning of the Eyach virus is unclear. Possibly an infection releases a fiebrigen Infekt.
