Serious August Geitner (* 12. June 1783 in Gera; "† 24 October 1852 in snow mountain) was a German chemist, physician, a Botaniker and an inventor.

Life

Geitner, which starting from 1801 medicine, chemistry and physics at the University of Leipzig studied and had attained a doctorate, opened 1809 in a medical practice and a 1810 a chemical factory for the production of greener copper colors. 1815 shifted Geitner the Geitner factory after snow mountain (ore mountains). it developed 1819 from lead sugar and chrome potash a yellow coloring material for the textile colouring.

1823 succeeded to Geitner the production of Argentan from 20% nickel, 55% copper and 25% zinc portions, which resembled the Chinese Pacfong. Thus mining industry in larger quantities was for the first time the cobalt bismuth nickel ores found nickel occurring a use for in in the Schneeberger. Before the nickel food was thrown as useless waste product of the blue color works on waste dump. The brothers Henninger in Berlin, to which the production had succeeded to 1824 the Argentan resembling alloy "german silver", referred won nickel for their cutlery production from Geitner.

For production because of their silver gloss and clear price advantage opposite the silver particularly for Essbestecke and fittings suitable alloy he bought the former Auerhammer to industriellen with Aue and established his Argentanfabrik, which took up 1829 the production of Argentanblech. From this factory the today's Auerhammer metal work GmbH followed.

1837 created Geitner in Planitz the driving market garden on the Planitzer earth fires, in which he seized also over 70 "°C ascending steams and used in greenhouses for the breed of tropical plants. Alexander of Humboldt used the Geitner tropical plant breeding for scientific investigations. After expiring the coal fire the market garden was shut down.
