Erich of the brook Zelewski (* 1. March 1899 in Lauenburg (Pommern); "† 8. March 1972 in Munich), leader with mass murder actions in different parts of the Soviet Union and in Poland

Life

Brook Zelewski came of old kaschubischem land aristocracy and fought already in the First World War also. After 1918 it followed different free corps, later the realm resistance, which it had to leave 1924 as a second lieutenant because of "National Socialist activities". Thereafter he performed day paying wages to compilation until he inherited 1928 the parental yard. 1930 it became member of the NSDAP and 1932 realm tag delegates. it joined 1931 the SS.

It made career and became 1938 higher SS and police leader (HSSPF) in the SS-Oberabschnitt southeast (Schlesien). With the beginning of the war against the Soviet Union it became on 22 June 1941 to the HSSPF Russia center. On this post it organized the second wave (after the destruction actions of the groups of employments of the state police and the SD) of the genocide at Russian Jews. In Riga it let 1941 35,000 humans kill on 31 October. The nightmare of the Jew murder led 1942 with it to a Nervenzusammenbruch. The Reichsarzt SS Dr. Grawitz certified to it, he suffered "in particular from conceptions in connection with the Jew shooting" led by him.

On 11 June 1943 he (supports God mountain" and the "special command Dirlewanger" from Curt of God mountain with the notorious "combat team) became a boss of the "gang fight federations" and so supervisor of the fight approximately partisans in Russia.

A usual procedure in the "gang fight" was: Villages, which were considered as or were with compulsory deliveries of agricultural goods in the arrears, were in a list seized. Then "combing" took place (i.e. the houses were destroyed and the inhabitants to a large extent murdered).

On 5 August 1944 Adolf Hitler assigned it thrashing Warsaw rebellion. It obeyed this order with brutal thoroughness.

On the first day between 20.000 and 50.000 civilians were murdered.

After 1945

After the war he stated as a witness of the accusation in the processes. Only 1962 he was condemned because of its participation in the genocide to lifelong detention.

Brook Zelewski died to 8. March 1972 in the penal institution Munich Harlaching.
