The Seiko Epson corporation is a Japanese company, which ranks world-wide among the largest manufacturers of printers, scanners, digital cameras, personnel computers, laptop, projectors, cash registers, robot and LCD components.

The enterprise employs today about 85,000 coworkers. In the financial year 2004/2005 amounted to the conversion 1,480 billion Yen according to 10.8 billion euro.

1961 became the enterprise under the name Shinshu Seiki CO. based. was the production of parts for precision clocks of the Suwa Seikosha CO., Ltd. (today Seiko of instrument, Inc.).

Suwa Seikosha manufactured the clocks for the olympic summer games 1964 in Tokyo. In addition one needed printers for the results. This was the beginning of the production of printers by the Shinshu Seiki CO.

In September 1968 the company of the world manufactured first Kleinstdrucker, the model EP-101. It was built already soon into many pocket calculators. In June 1975 the successor of the EP-101 was introduced as "Son OF EP-101" (son of the EP-101). From this name soon the mark "Epson" developed.

In June 1978 the 8-Nadel-Drucker TX-80 came on the market. It was used mainly for Commodore PET computer. Two years later the successor MX-80 came on the market, which became fast in the USA the best-selling printer.

In July 1982 the company was renamed officially in Epson corporation.

By Epson in the same year one introduced to the world first mobile computers, HC-20 (HX-20). Finally followed the models PX-4 and PX-8 and the PX-16, which one could equip also with a Touch key panel.

In May 1983 one presented the first LCD colour television set. Further innovations were 1984 the first color matrix printer (JX-80) and the first DIN-A3-Tintenstrahldrucker (SQ-2000).

In November 1985 the Suwa Seikosha CO fused., Ltd. and Epson corporation to the Seiko Epson corporation.

1988 are introduced the first 48-Nadel-Drucker (TLQ-4000). Numerous innovations within the range of the Fotodruckertechnologie.2004 follow the first digital Messsucherkamera (EPSON R-D1) and the first mobile photo printer (EPSON PictureMate) are introduced.

Owing to the within the LCD range world-wide approx. 80% of all mobile telephones are equipped with a display by Epson.
