Epiphone is an enterprise, which dedicates itself to the production of music instruments. Epiphone was created 1915 by the immigrant Epaminondas (Epi) Stathopoulos first as a manufacturer of banjos. Stathopoulos had transferred and registered the banjo workshop of its father to New York 1924 the label name Epiphone - compound up from its first name and the Greek word for sound.

1931 began Epiphone with the production of half resonance guitars and stepped thereby into embittered competition to Gibson. The argument ended 1957, when Epiphone of Gibsons nut/mother company for 20.000 US Dollar was taken over.

Today under the mark Epiphone are manufactured mainly copies and advancements of giving on models. A milestone in mark history was reached, when starting from 1964 increased Epiphone models used the Beatles. Into the 1970er years production was shifted from the USA to Japan.
