in Spain (Roman Emporiae, as excavation place today Ampurias) was an antique Greek colony, which decreased/went back to a commercial establishment and late justified settlement. The city is located to 20 km south the French border in Katalonien at the east coast of north Spain. The geographical coordinates are 42"° 7 ' north and 3"° 7 ' east.

About at the same time Greek put around 520 v. Chr. Massilia (heut. Marseille) and as the westernmost base Polis as commercial establishment (so-called Emporion) on. The area around Polis with the today's San Martin de Ampurias was at the time at that time still another island. Together with around 500 v. the Chr. both places the later colony Emporion formed created associated housing development Polis. Under latin name Emporiae the place was in the late 3. and 2. Century v. Chr. an important base of the Romans.

The ruins of gave the Marina Empuriabrava their name.
