Emil Osann (* 25. May 1787 in Weimar; "Â 11 January 1842 in Berlin) was a German physician, who is considered as a founder of the scientific Balneologie. He was the nephew and son-in-law of the well-known physician Christoph William hoof country, with which he also co-operated.
Emil Osann was the son of the government advice Friedrich Heinrich Osann; its nut/mother was a sister of hoof country. After the medicine study in Jena and Goettingen he attained a doctorate 1809 and established themselves as a practical physician in Berlin. Shortly thereafter it became Assistenzarzt at poliklinischen Institut in Berlin, created by its uncle. Since 1814 Osann was a professor for physiology at the there medical-surgical military academy. It habilitierte itself 1815 and 1818 the professor for cure teachings was appointed. 1820 it was accepted to the German academy of the natural scientists, Leopoldina. Starting from 1833 it led the Hufeland health center.
Not least by the influence of hoof country busy Osann itself as scientists particularly with the effect of sources of welfare. 1822 it published a work over the sources of mineral to emperor Franzensbad with Eger, for which the Austrian emperor lent the large golden honour medal to it. Its Hauptwerk was the physical medicinische representation of the well-known sources of welfare of the excellent countries of Europe, which is considered as the first comprehensive work of the Balneologie. It was put on on three volumes, however Osann before its death could complete only both first over the German therapeutic baths. Since 1837 he was the exclusive publisher journal of the practical medicine.
