Elizabeth Blackwell (* 3 February 1821 in Counterslip in close proximity to Bristol, England; "† 31. May 1910 in Kilmun, Scotland) was one of the first lady doctors with university conclusion. Apart from its employment for the woman study it carried out for pioneer work in the preventive medicine and the public health policy. Like their brother Henry Blackwell and its Mrs. Lucy Stone used itself it besides for the abolishment of the slavery.

Life

The family Blackwell pulled 1832 into the USA, where 1838 the family father died. In order to nourish the family, nut/mother led the Elizabeth's together with their three daughters a Privatschule. Elizabeth wanted to study medicine, however - as a woman - at all colleges was rejected. Only in the middle of the 1840er years found it a study place at the gene EH college in New York, where it made 1849 as a first US-American lady doctor their conclusion.

It was difficult for Blackwell to practice as a lady doctor since on the one hand nobody wanted it consulting rooms letting, on the other hand the female patients and patients of a woman opposite was very sceptical. 1854 published it a collection of texts over the hygiene under the title The Laws OF Life, with Special Reference ton the Physical Education OF Girls.

Together with their sister it developed Emily as well as Marie Zakrzewska 1857 a "university hospital", at which the three lady doctors wanted to give young Mrs. the possibility of letting be formed as the lady doctor without however the chicaneries and Unbillen of the study at a "man university" to undergo to have - the Women's Medical college OF the New York Infirmary was born. In order to prevent call damages with their trained lady doctors, Blackwell insisted on very strict permission exams and final examinations. The training was radical and the beginning lady doctors had a perfect moral to show, otherwise they were excluded from the study.

1869 left Elizabeth Blackwell their hospital to their successors and returned to England, where she created 1871 national the Health Society - the forerunner of the today's British national Health (national health system). Together with Florence Nightingale trained it to London School OF Medicine for Women nurses and lady doctors. Starting from 1875 Blackwell withdrew itself more and more from medical practice, wrote however further books. It died at the end of of May 1910 in Scotland.
