ebXML Business XML, i.e. XML for electronic business processes stands for electronics.

ebXML is 1999 a started, common initiative of UN/CEFACT and OASIS. A goal of the initiative is the development of a technical framework for the use of XML for electronic business processes as well as a lowering of the entrance barriers for small and medium-size enterprises (KMU) and developing countries.

ebXML actually is no standard, but a family of different standards of UN/CEFACT and OASIS. To the ebXML standards belong among other things fundamental technical ebXML architecture (ebXML Technical Architecture Specification), a XML pattern for business processes (Business Process Specification pattern), a registration service (Registry services Specification) and an intelligence service (Message service Specification).

The development of ebXML ran in 2 phases. The first phase was locked after 18 months in May 2001. In the autumn 2003 with the explanation that the project is technically final, the second phase was terminated.

ebXML stands in competition to other XML were based for standards, like e.g. Rosettanet.
