Electronic court p.o. box (other designation: virtual court p.o. box) marks a virtual entrance mechanism, over from citizen, attorneys, authorities, societies etc. electronic documents (e.g. Klageschrift, writ) to the court to be addressed know.

The mechanism of the electronic court p.o. box is a legal condition for the fact that prozessuale declarations can be made effectively in electronic form the court opposite. In the meantime can be achieved a whole set of Federal courts and courts of the Lands of the Federal Republic by means of electronic court p.o. boxes. To it the Federal Administrative Court and the Federal Finance Court belong.

Persons, those with a court, which have an electronic court p.o. box, must have a signature map (Smartcard) of a for this licensed enterprise (Trustcenter) together with map reader, with whose assistance they can provide the electronic documents which can be submitted with a qualified electronic signature.

The administration of the detailed electronic documents is made by a computer (entrance server) with the help of a specific software, which examines among other things whether the document is provided with the necessary electronic signature and whether the document contains the data necessary for the subsequent treatment (to so-called meta data, see also XJustiz). If necessary the entrance can be taken over over a central server for several courts or whole court units.
