The edge is the currency of the Republic of South Africa. Until 1993 the edge was also the currency of Namibia. The Namibia dollar introduced thereafter is still in the relationship 1:1 with the edge convertible.

The edge is divided into 100 cent. The abbreviation for edge is R, that for cent C.

In the circulation notes are to 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 edge and coins to 5, 2 and 1 edge as well as 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cent. The 1 and 2 cent coins was pulled in the year 2005 from traffic; Money are rounded on full 5 cent.

The ISO code is ZAR.

The gold coins coined/shaped since 1967 apply in South Africa nominal also as currency, whereby they serve in the reality only as plant coins.
