eCl@ss is a standardized classification system for categories of commodities and goods characteristics.

ECl@ss-System consists similarly UNSPSC classification system of four stages (called subject, main group, group and sub-group) and is strictly hierarchical. Each stage is characterized by a two digit contraction, an adequately eCl@ss-Code is by it always 8 places long.

Emergence and organization

ECl@ss-System by the association of the same name eCl@ss registered association is waited and developed further. The association exists since 14 December 2000 and from a group of German large concerns based with the target to create by a standardized characteristic system the condition for a clear simplification of firmspreading data exchange.

Components

ECl@ss-System consists of the following elements:

Classes the classes or categories of commodities permit it to group and arrange products in this way. Key words by the individual classes assigned key words the search for products is simplified and standardized (e.g. category of commodities of "chairs" also with search words like "seat" or "office chair" found). Characteristics of characteristics are additional product attributes, which can be used only for products of a special class meaningfully, for example the achievement with lamps or the diameter with tubes.
