The e-Plate is a Kfz characteristic equipped with an active RFID component. It becomes since 2001 of the British company Hill Numberplates Ltd. developed and at present by the British traffic Ministry department for transport in a field test tests.

Technology

Application

In particular with the introduction of the city center duty to London, with which the Kfz characteristics are videobe based seized, the abuse of Kfz characteristics rose in Great Britain strongly. The need according to safe identification system rises therefore. For the purpose of the simplified electronic duty collection RFID systems are already used in several countries. With town center duty systems as for instance London could supplement the RFID technology of the e-Plates the complex camera-based characteristic collection and/or replace, their results is also strongly on the weather conditions dependent. Also to the wireless and automatic payment at gas stations the e-Plates could be used, that on the RFID technology which is based system speed passport the oil company ExxonMobil in the 90's to the USA already introduced.
