The donation Prussian culture possession is the culture Minister of State being subordinate donation of the public right with seat in Berlin. It ranks among the largest cultural facilities world-wide.

Emergence and tasks

It was created on 25 July 1957 by Federal law. The priority goal was first to receive and maintain the cultural properties of the former country Prussia. From the collections and archives of the Prussian state so 17 museums, the state library to Berlin, secret public records and a set of research establishments followed.

Since the German reunification the most important task exists however in the unification of separate collections.

The donation is carried to 75% by the federation and to 25% by all Lands of the Federal Republic. The building costs like for example the maintenance costs for the museum island are taken over to time completely by the federation. It engages itself for Freiwillige the social year in the culture. Thus there is in each case a place in the central management, in Ibero American Institut, in national Institut for music research and in central archives of the national museums since 2004.

The donation aligns annually the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy price, for the honor of new generation musicians of German colleges of music.
