Daihatsu is the oldest small car manufacturer in Japan. The company was created as Hatsudoki Seizo company 1907.
Daihatsu created itself and does not want with small cars a long past also in the future not without the building excluding small cars to do. The Hatsudoki Seizo company had sat down to the goal of developing and of selling gas engines. The first innovations came the young company already in that December with a 6-PS-Gasmotor.
1914 developed the company a 20-HP gas engine.
1930 meanwhile gave Hatsudoki up Seizo company the production of gas engines in favor of the diesel engine. The company follows the trend of the mobility and builds a tricycle commercial motor vehicle with petrol engine, the type hectar.
1933 a tricycle passenger vehicle, the Daihatsu GO follows it. In April 1938 Hatsudoki Seizo finally builds the first vehicle with four wheels. The small delivery van with the type designation COMPANY
1939 open Hatsudoki Seizo a work in Ikeda, in which this very day vehicles are manufactured.
In the year 1949 is the damage 2. World war gradually again repaired. Now the potentials of the new market are used and Hatsudoki Seizo dare the stock exchange course. Production creates 7000 vehicles in this year.
The first passenger vehicle, which Hatsudoki Seizo produces after the world war, is offered starting from 1951. This is again a 3-Rad car, the model BEE with two cylinders and 1000 ccm. Production doubled itself since "´49 nearly. Starting from 1957 the produced Midget (see also autoriksha) is this very day in production. 1957 develops for 36,000 Daihatsus.
In the year 1958 the building begins by cars in Osaka Dai, after the place Daihatsu is designated.
In October 1958 Daihatsu presents a new four-wheeled vehicle, to the Vesta with four-stroke engine and 1000 ccm.
1960 are launched in Japan of the HiJet. The production of vehicles numbers itself in this year on 121.000 vehicles. 1961 open a second work in Ikeda (Ikeda 2) to Daihatsu.
1963 build a further mark a small commercial motor vehicle with the name Compagno Van for Daihatsu. A small passenger vehicle with the name Compagno Belurina follows that in February 1964. In this year 170,000 cars were produced.
1966 win for the first time a Daihatsu the Japanese Grand Prix. This car goes immediately into production and is available starting from November under the name Fellow. At the same time Daihatsu rehearses the electric motor for small vehicles. In December a test track is taken in enterprise.
1967 are signed a Kollaborationsvertrag with Toyota. Production amounts to 236.000 vehicles in this year.
In the year 1970 Daihatsu mausert itself to the world-wide largest manufacturer of electric vehicles. The Fellow max and the electrical golf cart of Masters are introduced.
1973 are opened in Kyoto a new production plant. At the same time Daihatsu introduces the five-day week. Production in this year of 388,000 vehicles. One year later is presented the taffeta, the first all wheeled vehicle by Daihatsu with an engine of 958 ccm capacity.
Daihatsu presents the HiJet 550 with a 550ccm-Motor 1976. Likewise the Fellow MAX of 550. 1977 the car Charade in Japan is launched. This car becomes there the car of the yearly. In this November Daihatsu produced altogether the car.
1979 succeed to Daihatsu finally also in the export the break-through. In Brussels a Office responsible for Europe is furnished. Besides Daihatsu in Kobe builds own shipment plants.
1981 win a Charade the Rallye Monte Carlo in the class until 1000 ccm. One year later wins Charade also the safari Rallye.
1985 built the zehnmillionste vehicle for Daihatsu.
With the ninety-year old anniversary 1997 a new company and product philosophy are formulated. Small, resources-careful cars and a clear ecological adjustment are to form in the future the foundation of the business activity. Since September 1998 Daihatsu is a subsidiary company of the Toyota company.
1979 walter Hagen & CO. General importer contract for Daihatsu receives passenger car in Germany and introduces as the first Daihatsu the Charade.
1981 Daihatsu Cuore comes on the German market.
1982 with the Daihatsu charming follow a further model.
1983 walter Hagen import the Daihatsu Charade, 2. Expenditure.
1984 jeep Rocky (in Germany in former times Wildcat GL).
1985 Cuore, 2. Expenditure appears.
1986 new Hijet model (delivery van).
1987 Daihatsu Charade, 3. Expenditure.
1988 Daihatsu Feroza.
1989 the Daihatsu Germany GmbH, new company headquarters in is created; the Daihatsu applause appears; for the first time 0.5 per cent market share.
1990 Cuore, 3. Expenditure, appears.
The 20,000 unit threshold jumps over and permits 1991 Daihatsu for the first time 21,280 vehicles; Introduction of the three-yearly warranty or 100,000 kilometers for all Daihatsu passenger cars.
1995 the 4. Generation of the Cuore appears.
1997 the Allrad SUV Daihatsu Terios one imports to Germany.
1998 the sedan Sirion comes on the market.
1999 Daihatsu sells 16,345 vehicles in Germany; 10 years Daihatsu Germany GmbH.
2000 Daihatsu Austria Niederlassund of the Daihatsu Germany GmbH becomes.
2001 the compact space sedan YRV 1,3 and the sedan Sirion 1,3 appears.
2002 Daihatsu Belgium subsidiary of the Daihatsu Germany GmbH becomes; YRV 1,0 comes on the market; Facelift of the sedan Sirion.
2004 the Compact Roadster Copen one introduces as right steering wheel into Germany.
2005 the 2. Generation of the Sirion comes on the German market.
2006 the Compact Roadster Copen one introduces as link steering wheel into Germany, the 2. Generation of the Allrad SUV Daihatsu Terios comes on the market.
