The drilling tool (excursion iron) is a short hollow cylinder from hardened steel, which at the lower edge sharply course-sharpened and above is provided with a handle.

The drilling tool is used as punching tool, in order to rip according to the drilling tool formed elements out from a workpiece. In addition one places it perpendicularly on the workpiece and strikes with a hammer on the handle, so that the sharp cut of the drilling tool can penetrate into the workpiece.

In the wood industry one uses the drilling tool, in order to rip round out of parts from thin wood lamellas. Also in the treatment of leathers drilling tools are used.
