Dragut (also Torghud, gate property, Turgut) was a Turkish pirate, admiral and with of Tripoli. Born in an smallasiatic village, he served under Chaireddin Barbarossa and spread in the Mediterranean fear and fright, so that emperor Karl V. sent the captain Andrea Doria to his pursuit. After the income of Tripoli Dragut received this city and its area with the title Sandschak with. it was placed to 1552 of Sultan Soliman as gate property rice against the point of a large Turkish fleet. Its tyranny had made it hated meanwhile with all Satrapen of Africa on the extreme. Therefore several closed of them 1560 an alliance with the viceroy Cerda of Sicilies, which received the order from king Philipp II. from Spain to again-conquer Tripoli. But this enterprise did not succeed, since the Christian fleet was struck by the Turkish. When Sultan Soliman ran out 1565 for the conquest of Malta, Dragut with 16.000 discovered men 13 Galeeren and 2 Galeonen to the Turkish fleet, fell however before pc. Elmo by a mash ketene ball. Dying he still heard of the income of the Forts pc. Elmo, on 23 June 1565, which one owed primarily to its notice.
