Douglas (Doug) Tompkins (* 1943 in New York, NY, the USA) is an US-American environmental activist and entrepreneur as well as a founder and a former boss of the textile marks The North Face and ESPRIT of getting thing Limited.

Tompkins and its former wife Susie Russell sold 1990 for over 125 million US Dollar their portions of ESPRIT. Thus the married couple in Patagonien (southern Argentina and Chile) acquired enormous areas, in order to create national park.

From 1992 to 1994 globalization opponent Tompkins in Chile bought approximately 3,000 km country in an area, which drags on from the Pacific Ocean up to the of the Anden at the border to Argentina. Its goal was the creation of a coherent protected area with the official status of a reservation. Tompkins is married since 1993 in second marriage with its former woman employee Kristine McDivitt.
