Document technologies is the transmission of the English-language term DRT document Related Technologies. Document technologies serve for the production, collection, development, administration, dressing, supply, distribution, safety device and retaining of electronic documents.

Document Related Technologies

Document technologies are services of an IT-infrastructure for the controlled use of electronic documents independently of application, place, time and producer. The term component document (see also document management) is defined thereby from contentwise and legal view. It has thereby another quality than data, information or content in the surrounding field of the information technology. Electronic documents define themselves by means of its contents and legal character and can in different form as structured, structured weak or unstructured digital information to be present.

The acronym DRT and the term document Related Technologies was introduced 1998 by Ulrich Kampffmeyer. The term document technologies is coined/shaped and thus in contrast to document management substantially further-seized from technological view. DRT document Related Technologies contains two different beginnings after Kampffmeyer:

  • Systems, which are specialized in the processing of unstructured or weakly structured information ("documents ")
  • document-oriented functions, which are integrated in arbitrary applications and IT-infrastructures

Latter beginning becomes generally accepted increasingly, there document technologies as server components in modern service architectures service-oriented architecture) the infrastructure becomes.

Contrary to the offerers offerers of digital pressure systems, output management solutions and other document-oriented products position themselves of classical DM systems or ECM systems rather under this classification. Here this term partially also applied to procedures and technologies, which are not based on electronic information technology, and at the term of the paper document to orient itself.

Examples

  • Development: e.g. Indexing, categorization, classification, registration department
  • Administration: e.g. Document management, Enterprise content management, data base, file system
  • Dressing: e.g. Converter, ocr, pdf, single SOURCE Publishing
