Dirk Basting (* 1946) is a German chemist, physicist and an entrepreneur.

He studied chemistry in Marburg, worked 1971 - 1975 on the institute for Max-Planck for biophysical chemistry in the department of laser physics of professor Fritz P. shepherds and attained a doctorate there 1975.

On suggestion and with support by professor 1971 he created active enterprises Lambda physics with seat in Goettingen together with Bernd Steyer in the High Tech range laser technology.

In the years 2000 - 2002 he was a president of the German physical society. It is member in the supervisory board of the Sartorius AG.
