DHL international is 1969 a created package and letter express delivery service, which are designated after its founders (see below). Since 2002 DHL belongs to the company German post office World Net and is at present the world-wide largest express sender. The enterprise employs approximately 174,000 coworkers in 220 countries. (Conditions: April 2005).

History

DHL Worldwide express was created 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn, from their initial letters of the surnames up the company name builds themselves. They brought shipping documents personally by airplane from San Francisco to Honolulu. The customs of the appropriate cargos could so already begin before the actual arrival of the ships. Through this time gained the shipping companies saved for much money. The business idea to dispatch the bills accompanying goods before the actual transport of goods justified the success of this express delivery service.

DHL Worldwide express maintained its own freight airline under the name DHL aviation with seat in Brussels (Belgium). This was transferred 2002 to the DHL (post office). Likewise the DHL Worldwide express (white with wine-red Logo and the Schriftzzug WORLDWIDE EXPRESS) was transferred completely by the German post office AG and transferred to the DHL express (yellow with light red Logo and the signature EXPRESS). 2005 took over DHL then the complete logistics range of the KarstadtQuelle AG.

Company structure

DHL maintains its own freight airline under the name DHL aviation with seat in Brussels (Belgium). Starting from 2008 the European air freight spider from Brussels is to the airport Leipzig/resounds to be shifted; thus there directly 3,500 jobs are to develop, indirectly on up to 7.000 further places are counted.

The entire package, freight and express business of the German post office are operated meanwhile under the roof name DHL: The package dispatch of the German post office (the classical parcel) as well as their express/courier business as DHL express, air and sea freight business as DHL global Fowarding, the forwarding trade in the land transport under DHL Freight as well as the business with logistics solutions for big customer (Supply chain management, contract logistics, Fulfillment etc.) under DHL Exel Supply chain.
