Dengeln (also t¤ngeln, demmeln, or knock) designates a sharpening of the cut of a scythe or a Sichel.
By knocking with the Dengelhammer on the anvil too thick the cut of the Sensenblattes become is again taken off, so that the scythe can be sharp-held easier during the work on the field with the Wetzstein. The metal along the cut is driven out through hammers to a thin, sharp cut.
