The Deep Lake Water Cooling system is a project, which uses cold weather stored in the water of the Ontariosees to supply different buildings in Toronto with pollution free produced cold weather for the cooling. In a depth by approximately 83 m water with a temperature of 4"°C is taken from the Ontariosee and pumped by a piping system to the remote cooling work of the city. In the remote cooling work the cold water is collected, prepared and led afterwards by an underground pipe system to the individual cooling consumers. In the buildings attached to the cooling net in a heat exchanger cold weather needed in each case is extracted from the water. In such a way warmed up water is used partially for the potable water supply of the buildings. The unnecessary remainder is returned over the pipe system again in the Ontariosee.
Requirements of electric current for the cooling of the buildings are reduced by this project by 75%. The system was taken in the spring 2004 in enterprise and supplied for example the Steam Whistle brewery, the air Canada center and some office buildings.
The plant of the town center OF Toronto Water Supply division becomes common to enterprises with the local power supplier Enwave.
