Daniel Peter (* 1836 in Moudon; " 1919) were a Swiss Chocolatier and entrepreneur. It is considered as the inventors of the milk chocolate.
Daniel Peter was son of a butcher and completed 1852 first a theory in the food trade and later in relating to crafts operated a candle factory in Vevey. Together with its brother and operated he bought some years later this factory, had however by the increasing displacement of the candles by petroleum lamps only little business success. 1863 he married Fanny Louise Cailler, the oldest daughter of the chocolate entrepreneur Louis Cailler and came in such a way to the chocolate. 1867 it created Peter Cailler et Compagnie. The business ran badly, and with the assistance of its friend Henri and whose milk powder it tried a new product to create: The connection of milk and chocolate. After research for many years it gave up to 1873 the idea with the milk powder and tried it with Kondensmilch. finally 1875 it had developed a chocolate consisting of cocoa, sugar and Kondensmilch, which at the public to one large-follow became. 1887 were launched a refined milk chocolate under the label name Gala Peter.
1901 built Peter the today still existing factory in Orbe. 1904 fused Peter Cailler et Compagnie with Kohler, 1911 did the two with Cailler together, in order to be able to insist on the international markets. The connection of Kohlers haselnuss with Peter's milk chocolate sold itself at the armies at the 1. World war war parties involved excellently, the remaining export markets broke down however.
